若き日のDMに感服

デペッシュ・モードのオリジナルメンバーだった、ヴィンス・クラークが脱退し（諸事情はわかりません。すいません）、マーティン・ゴアがギター、シンセを手に取り、必死になって作ったアルバム。これがそうだ。
１９８０年代初頭から、DMはDMだ・・・いや、「マーティンはマーティンだった」のだ、と受け取るべきなのだ・・・本作を聴いてそう思った。
別にデペッシュ・モードはマーティン・ゴアのワンマン・バンドではないのだが、この瑞々しいアルバムから思い出されるのは、やはり若い日にしか書けない、悪く言えば「若気の至り」なのかもしれないが、しかし美しい（アルチュール・ランボーの詩のように）感性が「これでもか」とばかりに爆発している、ピュアなサウンド。
もちろん、デイヴ・ガーンやアンディ・フレッチャー、それにアラン・ワイルダーの存在も忘れてはいけない。９０年代になってビッグ（日本ではなぜか人気がない）になってしまい、実験精神を、やむをえず捨てざるを得なくなる前の、貴重なプレゼント、このアルバムがそうだ。
本作を聴いて素晴らしいと感じたら、もっと聴いてください。このお値段ならOKでしょう。決して損はしませんよ。

苦難の再スタート

ヴィンス色のサウンドからマーティン色に変わる始まりのような作品。彼等の作品の中でも一番影が薄いのでは・・・?でもアルバムを通して聴くと、なかなかの秀作ですよ。DVDはジャケの撮影時秘話なども収録されておりとても良い内容になっています。但しNTSC、リージョンコード1ですので、リージョンフリーのプレイヤーが必要です。でも日本語字幕付きです。個人的に彼等の作中ではこのジャケが一番のお気に入りです。(USA盤)

Ｖクラーク脱退後の初アルバム

ヒットメーカーとしての才能をいかんなくファーストで発揮した当時のバンドの音楽的な柱のＶクラークが脱退し、苦肉の策でマーティンゴアがコンポーザーを引き継ぎ、なんとか３人で完成させたセカンドアルバム。まだこの段階ではマーティンの美メロは完成されておらず、アレンジの要となるＡワイルダーもまだ在籍しておらず、彼らのアルバムとしては過渡期の作品で、全アルバムのなかで最も出来が悪いのは明らかだろう。全体としてかなり地味な印象だが、シングル曲はなかなか叙情的な面も出ていて、他の曲も聞き込めばミニマル的なアレンジが結構いい味を出していることも実感できる。最初の一枚には勧められませんが、この当時のエレポップアルバムとしてはよく出来ている作品です。

Nothing to Fear

この曲がきっかけで　Depeche Modeにハマってしまいました。（当時中学生）　それは、『FreeRide　FinalEdition』というサーフ映画の挿入歌だった。
　多分、この映画の題名を聞くと　若き日の青春時代がよみがえる人多いでしょう〜〜。　
　当時は、探すのが大変だった。　

　ヴァンスクラークが脱退したけど、『YAZ』という二人組み結成したけど、アルバムタイトル→Upstairs at Eric's　のなかの　OnlyYou　もCheckです。　以上。

マーティン．ゴア作曲集

今、聞くと音はチープです。しかし当時は丁寧にサウンドを作っていて、隠れた名曲（Ｓｅｅ　ｙｏｕ，Ｍｙ　Ｓｅｃｒｅｔ　Ｇａｒｄｅｎ，Ｌｅａｖｅ　Ｉｎ　ｓｉｌｅｎｃｅ）が聴けるセカンドアルバム。彼らのその後の作品の方向性を決定づけた名作。

未だ色褪せない美しい世界

まず、ジャケットにひかれた方、買ってください。
Depeche Modeの２作目ですが、多分テクノやエレクトロ・ポップ
で初めて「美しい」とか「涙をさそうほど叙情的」と評価された作品だと思います。
前作とも次作とも全くと言っていいほど異なるこのアルバムだけに流れる美しくも叙情的な世界。リアル・タイムで聴いていました。
収録曲で先行シングルだった「See You」は今でも泣けます。

初期の名作！

彼らの最高傑作は、誰しもが認める通り【MUSIC FOR THE MASSES】であり、【VIOLETER】なんだと思いますが、僕にとっての傑作はこのセカンドアルバム。

ファーストを制作したヴィンス・クラークが脱退（→後にERASUREへ）し、三人編成で制作したこのアルバムは、上記のアルバムで聴かれる毒々しいまでの「華」やアルバム全体の構成力こそはないものの、シンプルでコンパクトな曲で占められている。
その代表格が初期の名作である『SEE YOU』ということになるのでしょう。

単純な曲なんですが、その憂いのある切ないメロディは、８０年代のニューウェイヴ／テクノポップシーンが生んだ珠玉の一曲として数えられるに相応しいクオリティを備えていると言えるでしょう。
因みにこの次の【CONSTRUCTION TIME AGAIN】からはアラン・ワイルダーが加入し、より普遍的かつ人間の内面性を鋭く抉る、「華」のある曲作りを展開し始める。
